Two 14-year-old boys among three teenagers shot in south London | UK News

Three teenagers – including two 14-year-old boys – have been shot in south London.

Officers were called to Otlinge Road in Orpington at 10pm on Wednesday where they found an 18-year-old man.

The Metropolitan Police said paramedics from the London Ambulance Service were able to treat him at the scene for gunshot wounds.

During a search of the area two boys – both 14 – were also discovered injured.

The force says all three were taken to hospital and described their injuries as non-life-changing and non-life-threatening.

Following enquiries, officers discovered the shooting had taken place at Yalding Grove nearby.

Detective Inspector Raymond Sekalongo, from the specialist crime Trident investigation team, said: “Tackling violent crime in London remains our absolute focus and reducing shootings is key to that.

“We understand that this incident will cause concern within the community. We want to reassure you that we are carrying out fast-time enquiries to ensure that any suspect is apprehended.

He added: “I know that this may cause fear within the community, which is why I will ensure that officers are present within the area to listen to any of your concerns.”

Police have not revealed if they yet have a motive for the shooting, or whether officers have been able to question the teenagers about what happened.

Teacher accused of sex with teenage boys ‘laughed when one said he wasn’t old enough to drive’ | UK News

A teacher accused of having sex with two teenage boys laughed and said “Oh shut up! Stop saying that!” when one of them told her he wasn’t old enough to drive, a court heard.

Rebecca Joynes also became pregnant by one of the teenagers, referred to as Boy B, while she was on bail for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old known as Boy A, the jury was told.

The 30-year-old is on trial accused of six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, including two while being a person in a position of trust.

On the second day of her trial on Wednesday, the jury was shown a video of an interview Boy A gave to police officers.

He told police he first began interacting with Joynes by phone after she gave him 10 of the 11 digits of her mobile number.

Boy A was then able to work out the missing digit to make contact with her.

Within days they were exchanging Snapchat messages and after finishing school on a Friday afternoon he went home, changed out of his school uniform and Joynes picked him up at a pre-arranged point in her white Audi A1 car.

The police officer asks Boy A in the interview: “What were you wanting to happen?”

He replied: “To be honest, I was not expecting that to happen, what happened. I didn’t expect anything.”

“What were you hoping to happen?” the officer continued.

“I don’t know,” the boy said, adding: “But anyone in my position, when you are my age, my year. If you ever see her – she is good-looking.”

Boy A said he expected to do what had been planned – go to the Trafford Centre and back to her flat.

He said: “I remember her saying you might as well come to her apartment, and I said, I may as well stay.”

She said: “OK. That works for me.”

After picking the youngster up, Joynes then drove to pick her dog up from day care and dropped it off with her parents in Wirral telling the boy she had arranged for them to have it overnight.

He did not see the hand-over to her mother as Joynes parked in another street, “probably because of how young I look”, the boy said.

Boy A told the officer about a conversation on the journey.

He said: “She said something about driving. I went, ‘I wouldn’t know because I’m not old enough,’ and she said, ‘Oh shut up’ laughing, said something like, ‘Stop saying that’ but laughing.”

After visiting the Trafford Centre, where the youngster said Joynes bought him a £345 Gucci designer belt, they went back to her flat at Salford Quays where they twice had sex, it is alleged.

Rumours began to circulate and a police investigation followed as the defendant was suspended by her school.

She later told police that no sexual activity had taken place with Boy A.

She was subsequently bailed on the condition she have no unsupervised contact with anyone aged under 18.

But it later emerged that Joynes had been in a long-term sexual relationship with Boy B, who she had been in contact with while suspended.

The teenager is the father of Joynes’ young daughter.

Joynes claims sexual activity with Boy B did not start until he turned 16.

Neither boy can be publicly identified by law.

Joynes denies two counts of sexual activity with Boy A, two counts of sexual activity with Boy B and two counts of sexual activity with Boy B while being a person in a position of trust.

The trial was adjourned until Thursday morning.

‘Invincible’ all-girl football team goes whole season unbeaten – in boys’ league | UK News

An all-girl team has become football’s latest “invincibles” by going unbeaten all season – while playing in a boys’ league.

Queens Park Ladies under-12s finished top of division three of the Bournemouth Youth Football League, with 18 wins, four draws and no defeats.

They dominated the 11 boys’ teams in the league, scoring 61 goals and conceding only 11.

By the time they had played all their matches, they had amassed 58 points, 16 more than the second-placed team, which had two games still to play.

To make their triumph all the sweeter, they had to overcome initial resistance from county FA bosses, who initially told them they would have to play in a girls’ competition.

Manager Toby Green was convinced his team was good enough to play against boys every week and the players, who train twice a week, have proved him right on the pitch.

Next season, the girls will be promoted to the under-13s second division.

They topped the league away against Moordown & Southbourne several weeks ago but clinched the “invincibles” title last weekend with a 3-0 win against Lymington Town.

Speaking to Sky News, Mr Green said: “The girls have done really, really well. They’ve worked so hard all season, not just in the games, but in their training as well.

“They have been really disciplined… they deserve it.”

Mr Green said securing the league title with a 3-0 away win against a team that had won six games in a row was one of the highlights of the season.

“We’ve really had to dig in, particularly away from home,” he said.

Four of the girls in the 14-strong squad have been playing together since they were five years old.

Mr Green started the team when his daughter Olivia told him she wanted to play football. He had already coached his older daughter as the only girl in a boys’ team and decided this time he would put together a girls’ team, but wanted them to play in the boys’ league.

The team hopes to inspire more young girls to get involved in football.

Two boys, 15, arrested for ‘making petrol bombs’ and firing fireworks at police in Edinburgh | UK News

Police Scotland have made eight more arrests after a chaotic Bonfire Night face-off – including two teenagers who are suspected of making petrol bombs.

Two 15-year-old boys have been charged with preparing petrol bombs and throwing fireworks at police in Edinburgh.

Six others, aged between 14 and 16, have been arrested in connection with possession of fireworks and associated disorder in Southhouse and Gracemount.

On 5 November in Niddrie, riot police officers were targeted by a group of around 100 youths.

Videos from the scene show fireworks being shot towards police positions.

While some officers only suffered mild injuries, Police Scotland condemned the psychological impact of the “unacceptable” violence.

The latest arrests mean a total of 17 suspects have been taken into custody by police over the disorder on Bonfire Night.

The youngest suspect was aged 13, and the oldest was a man 31.

Ely crash: Police van driver who followed boys shortly before fatal collision in Cardiff faces criminal investigation | UK News

The driver of a police van which was seen on CCTV following two boys on an e-bike shortly before they died in a fatal collision is facing a criminal investigation.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said the driver of the vehicle was now being “criminally investigated for dangerous driving”.

The driver, along, with the passenger in the van, had previously been served with a gross misconduct notice.

Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and Harvey Evans, 15, died in the crash in the Ely area of Cardiff on 22 May.

The crash sparked riotous scenes in the community as properties were damaged and cars torched.

The IOPC said the notices and the criminal letter did not necessarily mean that disciplinary or criminal proceedings would follow.

The crash happened at 6.02pm on Snowden Road and CCTV footage showed the bike being followed by a police van at 6pm on nearby Frank Road.

Other footage showed the van turn off and it was not following the boys at the time of the collision.

The watchdog’s investigation is looking at the nature of the police’s interaction with the boys before the collision.

One key factor under consideration is whether there was any point at which the decision and actions of the officers in the van “constituted a pursuit”.

The IOPC has confirmed it has completed all its enquiries in the Ely area in recent weeks and has also reviewed footage from body-worn cameras.

South Wales Police is continuing to co-operate with the IOPC investigation.

‘Went everywhere together’

Following Harvey’s death, his family said their hearts were “truly broken”.

They described him as having lived “life to the full” and someone who had a “big heart”, adding that “deep down, he truly cared”.

His family also appealed for “peace within the community” and asked people to allow the police to investigate and “get the answers we so desperately need”.

Kyrees was a “handsome young man” and a “loving son and brother”, his family said.

They added that he and Harvey “went everywhere together” and were loved “not only by their families but by their community as well”.

IOPC Director David Ford said his thoughts and sympathies were with the family and friends of Kyrees and Harvey and everyone impacted by their deaths.

“Our independent investigation is progressing well and I want to again thank the local community for the support provided to our investigation, including through the sharing of CCTV evidence,” he said.

He said the IOPC said it remained “committed to establishing the facts” and would “continue to provide regular updates”.
