Woman and eight-year-old girl found dead inside house in Salford | UK News

A 40-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl have both been found dead inside a property in Salford.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said they were called to South Radford Street just after 10.30am following reports of concern for welfare at the property.

“Officers attended, with assistance from North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and a 40-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl were both sadly found dead in the property,” the force said.

All known next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles of GMP’s Salford district said: “A woman and young girl were both tragically found dead and we are working hard as a team to establish what happened here this morning.

“Whilst we are not actively looking for anyone else in relation to this investigation, I understand the news of their deaths and the large police and emergency services presence at the address will most likely cause some concern to residents and those further afield in Greater Manchester.

“I want to reassure them that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat in the community.”

A Salford City Council spokesperson also said: “We are aware of the terribly sad news this morning and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives.

“We’re working closely with GMP and assisting them with their ongoing investigation and our teams will be supporting both local residents and council staff who have no doubt been greatly affected by the events today.”

A cordon has been put in place at the scene.

Salford: Man and woman arrested on suspicion of murder after 57-year-old falls from tower block | UK News

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 57-year-old man fell from a balcony of a tower block.

Police said the man died in hospital after falling from the fourth floor of Black Friar Court in Salford.

Officers were called at just after 8.40pm on Sunday to reports a man had fallen from a balcony.

A 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman have been arrested and remain in custody for questioning, police said.

Officers said the investigation was in the “initial phases” and appealed for members of the public “who may have been in the area, or at the address” to come forward.

Detective Inspector David Ogden said: “We know the community will be concerned about this tragic death, and we share their concern.

“We’re appealing to anyone who has not yet spoken to us.

“Please don’t assume that what you know is already known to us.

“The smallest piece of information may be crucial to our investigation and towards getting answers for this man’s family.”

Crime scene where human torso was found in Salford reopens weeks after discovery | UK News

A crime scene where a human torso was found in a Salford nature reserve has reopened more than two weeks after the discovery.

A passer-by found human remains, consisting of the bottom of the back, buttocks and thigh, in clear plastic while walking at the Kersal Dale Wetlands in Greater Manchester on 4 April.

Hundreds of specialist officers and scientists were deployed and the force closed the scene on Wednesday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Officers have now reopened scenes at Great Clowes Street and the wetlands after “further reports” during “inquiries in the area”, GMP added.

From 6 April: Torso found ‘belongs to man’

Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes said: “I would like to reassure you that this is precautionary.

“Every piece of intelligence we receive is investigated thoroughly, leaving no stone unturned to give us the best chance of finding out who our victim is and what happened to him.”

The victim is believed to have been a white man in his 40s, who had died a number of days before his remains were found on 4 April. He has not yet been identified.

Children playing at Salford nature reserve where body part was later found may have crucial information, police say | UK News

Detectives investigating human remains found wrapped in plastic at a Salford nature reserve believe children who were playing in the area days before the discovery could have crucial information.

The “significant body part” found wrapped in clear plastic on Thursday 4 April was today confirmed by Greater Manchester Police to consist of the bottom part of the deceased’s back, buttocks and thigh.

Detectives are working to identify the victim, who they say was a man likely over the age of 40. It appears he was white, with no distinguishable marks on his body such as scars or tattoos, police added.

Officers think he had only been dead for a few days.

Police have launched a murder investigation and are appealing for witnesses, including dog walkers, who were in the area between 6am and 6pm on the day a passer-by made the grim discovery.

A trawl of footage from nearby CCTV cameras found children were playing in the area in the days leading up to the body part being found and officers believe they “could hold crucial information without even realising it”.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Naismith said: “Our focus from day one has remained on the victim’s family. They will be suffering the loss of a loved one, and we need to be able to give them answers so they can come to terms with their loss. Our work is far from over, this is just the beginning of a long and complex investigation.”

He added: “Although we haven’t found any more human remains in the area from our searches, we continue to work with an open mind whilst our murder investigation continues.”

The investigation cannot confirm the deceased’s nationality at this stage, the detective added.

He said: “My team have checked the victim’s DNA against the UK police database and although this does not bring up a match, there is extensive work ongoing, including trawls of various other databases, missing person records and medical records; it’s a big piece of work which will take time.”

The police also want to hear from members of the public who may have a missing family member, DCI Naismith said.

He added: “Right now, as well as wanting to speak to those who may have been in the area where the body part was found, we are also appealing to anyone who has a dad, brother, or son who they have not seen in over 12 days to come forward and speak to us.

“Our victim could be a family member, friend, co-worker or acquaintance and someone somewhere will have an idea of what has happened to him.”
