The Luton Town captain suffered a cardiac arrest during the club’s match against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The club confirmed in a statement that Lockyer was discharged from hospital on Wednesday.

Match abandoned between Bournemouth and Luton Town after Tom Lockyer collapse to be replayed in full | UK News

The Premier League match between Bournemouth and Luton Town will be replayed in full after the collapse of a player during the second half of the game.

Luton Town’s skipper Tom Lockyer is undergoing tests in hospital after suffering an on-pitch cardiac arrest against Bournemouth.

The Premier League Board has decided to reschedule the fixture for later in the season, with a date yet to be confirmed.

The 29-year-old footballer collapsed during Saturday’s Premier League encounter at the Vitality Stadium.

Players and managers from both clubs, match officials and the Premier League collectively decided to abandon and cancel the match at 1-1.

The Premier League thanked the medical staff for responding to “an extremely upsetting situation for everyone”.

Paramedics and staff had rushed to resuscitate the centre-back while manager Rob Edwards ushered his players away from the field.

Luton Town said the “next steps for [Lockyer’s] recovery” will be determined after the results of his tests and scans.

“We all want the very best for Tom, his partner Taylor and the whole Lockyer family, and politely ask that his and their privacy is respected at this difficult time,” a spokesperson said.

Rodrigo Falcon: Fresh appeal in search for man who disappeared in Scottish town a year ago | UK News

Police searching for a man who vanished in the Scottish Highlands a year ago today have issued a fresh appeal for information.

Rodrigo Falcon, now 34, was last seen in Aviemore on Sunday 11 December 2022.

Mr Falcon had been at The Vault Nightclub and was later captured on CCTV walking along Grampian Road towards the southern end of the town at around 3.10am.

Despite extensive Police Scotland enquiries and searches of the area, Mr Falcon has never been found.

Inspector Craig Johnstone said: “It has now been one year since Rodrigo Falcon was seen by his family and friends.

“We know from the response by the community in the [town] and surrounding area how much concern they have for him, and I know that Rodrigo has never been far from the thoughts of many over the past 12 months.

“Officers carried out extensive searches to locate Rodrigo, including door-to-door enquiries, liaising with other agencies and reviewing CCTV footage.

“We continue to ask people with any possible sightings or new information as to Rodrigo’s whereabouts to get in touch with us.”

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards immortalised in bronze in their home town | Ents & Arts News

Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have been honoured in their home town with a pair of statues to celebrate their musical achievements with The Rolling Stones.

The bronze sculptures, dubbed The Glimmer Twins, capture Sir Mick strutting with a microphone while Richards strums a guitar.

Created by artist Amy Goodman after she was commissioned by Dartford Borough Council, the statues were unveiled at One Bell Corner in Dartford on Wednesday.

Ms Goodman said that sculpting the works had been “one of the hugest honours” of her career and called the experience “very overwhelming”.

She said the process of creating the work, which involved making models, casting into bronze and help from the Talos Art Foundry team, took about a year.

Ms Goodman added: “I didn’t quite know how to handle it but it’s wonderful and it’s a great job.

“Commissions like this make my job the best job in the world.”

The council founded the project to celebrate the musicians who were both born in the town in Kent, which is south-east of central London.

Richards indicated his approval of the statues on X, formally known as Twitter, posting two thumbs up emojis.

Dartford Council leader Jeremy Kite said: “I’ve had overwhelmingly good responses to it today, I think there’s a surprise that actually they’re so kind of animated and dynamic, the statues, and I think that’s a really nice thing.

“We could have had the old fashioned standing upright statue, but this is Mick Jagger and Keith Richards we’re talking about, and they don’t stand still, so our statues don’t.”

Sir Mick and Richards first met as classmates in Dartford, Kent and went on to found The Rolling Stones in the 1960s.

The group became one of the most popular and enduring bands of the rock era.

Among their hits are Paint It Black, Gimme Shelter, It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It), Honky Tonk Women, Start Me Up, Sympathy For The Devil and (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.

A “beautiful” 16-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in Somerset has been named as Charley Bates as his family has paid tribute.

Charley died in The Street in the town of Radstock on Sunday evening.

Emergency services had been called to a car park there around 6.40pm following reports of disorder involving a number of people.

Charley, who lived in the area, was found critically injured and, despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teenager’s family said: “Our beautiful Charley Boy. We are all so very proud of you. You are desperately missed by so many.”

Police charged 18-year-old Joshua Delbono, of Frome, with murder on Tuesday.

He was due to appear at Bath Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Three other people have been arrested by officers investigating Charley’s death.

A 20-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man were detained on suspicion of murder, while another man, also 18, was held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

The woman has since been released under investigation, while the two men remain in custody for further questioning.

Avon and Somerset Police said Year 11 pupils in the area are being offered support by school staff.

And any young people affected by the incident can talk to youth workers who have set up a drop-in.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to call 101 and give the reference 5222182800.

Eurovision 2023: How one slightly surprising town came to be in the frame as the UK host city | UK News

Internet rumours have surfaced about Swindon being a possible host for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest, after it was ruled current winners Ukraine would not be able to stage the event.

Ukraine’s entry – folk rap group Kalush Orchestra – won the competition this year with their song Stephania, and would normally host the event the following year. However, the Russian invasion of their country presented too many security risks.

The UK was the runner up this year, and as such was invited to act as a host for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest.

And while it is still being decided in which city the event will be held, the Wiltshire town of Swindon – best known for its multi-ringed ‘magic roundabout’ – bizarrely began to creep into the fray.

Twitter searches threw up various comments from locals and out-of-towners alike, including from TV critic and broadcaster Scott Bryan, who tweeted: “Give them Eurovision immediately.”

But his hopes were soon dashed after the borough council issued an official statement.

A disappointing Bryan later told his followers to “cross Swindon off your list”.

It comes as representatives from cities including London, Manchester, Glasgow, Sheffield, Aberdeen, Leeds and Hull vied for the honour of hosting duties.

The bidding process for host city will begin this week, with the BBC and European Broadcasting Union jointly making the final decision on which city will host.

Oleh Psiuk – the lead singer of Kalush Orchestra – told Sky News the band was sad the contest would not be held in Ukraine next year.

But, he added: “We are grateful to the UK for their solidarity and for agreeing to hold the event in support of our country.

“We hope Eurovision 2023 will have a Ukrainian flavour and celebrate our beautiful, unique culture. We, in turn, will make all efforts to help Ukraine win next year as well, so that Eurovision 2024 can take place in a peaceful country.”

Free pass

TikTok star Sam Ryder was this year’s runner up with his track Space Man – a vast improvement on the UK’s disappointing 2021 score of nil points.

Ukraine will automatically qualify for the Grand Final alongside the so-called Big Five – the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain – who each get a free pass because of their financial contributions.

As the world’s largest live music event, the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest reached a global audience of over 180 million viewers across TV and digital platforms.

The UK has previously hosted the event eight times – in London in 1960, 1963, 1968 and 1977, Edinburgh in 1972, Brighton in 1974, Harrogate in 1982 and Birmingham in 1998 – that’s more than any other country.
